This half term, our Year 6 children have worked hard to design accommodation which could be built in or near one of the North American National Parks with the view of boosting tourism within the park. As part of this project, they researched the park's geography and considered how they could best cater to the needs of the area.

In class, we have looked at French stories. We've translated them using a combination of our general knowledge and by using dictionaries to support us. We were interested to see the different words that are used for animal sounds. For example, in French the cows go 'Meuh!' not 'Moo'! You can see two examples of our translations below.
In Maths, we have used Explain Everything to share how you could approach some of the trickier SATS style questions we have faced during our mock tests this week. For PSHE, our year 6 children have looked at a range of scenarios. They have considered all the options they would have within the scenarios and, after considering the consequence of each, made a decision about which they think would be the best to do.
Today, a team of four year 6 children entered the Essex Maths Competition. After an intense few rounds, we were awarded first place! This means we'll be entered into the finals which take place in June. Well done team!
The Year Six Quiz Team won the semi-final of this year's Rayleigh Town Council Quiz competition held at Downhall and progress to the final, next Monday where they will compete to be town champions.
Some of the Year Six children hosted a mocktail sale in the hall at break time today to raise money for the British Heart Foundation. As well as raising money for a great cause, many a tasty beverage was enjoyed as well! Thanks to Mrs Twomey for her help organising the event and to all those involved! In total, £104.20 was raised!
